Medieval Jewish Quarter Worms
Illuminiertes Modell
Jüdisches Museum Berlin
Fertigstellung: 2020
A haptic model of the city of Worms was used to present a medieval Jewish community as an example. The model included simplified building models of the city wall with towers, important Christian buildings of the time such as churches and the town hall as well as the Jewish quarter. The city structure with paths and street blocks was represented by milled recesses.
A projection on the model located and explained Jewish facilities and buildings. At the same time, the history of the Jewish community in the Middle Ages was told in broad strokes: From the construction of the first synagogue in 1034 and famous scholars to the persecution during the Crusader campaigns and plague pogroms. Finally, today's pictures of the synagogue and the cemetery bear witness to the importance of medieval Jewish Worms.
